About Congressman Mike Thompson

Congressman Mike Thompson has represented California in Congress since 1999 after first being elected in 1998. He currently serves on the House Ways and Means Committee, including as Ranking Member of the Tax Policy Subcommittee, where he helps shape policies affecting jobs, economic growth, and American competitiveness.

Prior to serving in Congress, Congressman Thompson represented California in the State Senate and chaired the Senate Budget Committee. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he served with the U.S. Army’s 173rd Airborne Brigade and was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. Throughout his career, he has earned recognition for his leadership on veterans’ affairs, health care, economic development, and environmental stewardship, as well as his bipartisan approach to solving complex challenges.
